At Summit Stonemasons we recognise the importance of preserving the heritage of ancient monuments and historic buildings and have a wealth of experience in the repair, restoration and conservation of stonework. We are highly trained in conservation with Tom having completed the Cathedrals Workshop Fellowship programme, which focused on the restoration and conservation of ancient buildings.
Our restoration & conservation skills include
- Repointing
- Lime mortar repairs
- Stone indents
- Stitch pinning and micropinning
- Lime wash and shelter coating
- Supply and installation of replacement stones
- Stone cleaning, including removal of vegetation
- Consolidation works
Restoration and conservation work requires a thorough understanding of the building or monuments history and future for works to be carried out in the most sympathetic way possible. We work closely with you to ensure we have this understanding and in the past have worked with Historic England, the National Trust, local councils, architects and main contractors of larger scale projects. Examples of our previous work include Wallingford Castle, Castell Coch, Isaac Watts memorial statue, churches, historic sites for both the National Trust and Historic England as well as privately owned homes.
